Application

Q. What data is stored in the different types of Consolidation Detail.

A. See the Consolidation Detail page.

Q. Why do I get an error when I try to load application settings.

A. An error could be occurring because the security in the application you are loading settings into is different from the application you extracted settings from. If this is the case you need to extract and load security setting before extracting and loading application settings.

Entities

Q. The Shares option on the Edit menu is inactive. How do I enter shares for an entity?

A. To enter shares you must have selected Ownership by period and category when you created the application. Also the Intercompany attribute for the entity must be selected.

Q. Why is the The Purge Unowned Entities option on the Edit menu is always inactive.

A. In some versions of Hyperion Enterprise this menu option exists but does not work. It does not work in 5.1 but does work in 6.0 see the Yahoo Hyperion Enterprise Administrators group for more information.

Categories

Q. How do I change inactive (greyed out) category attributes for categories which already contain data?

A. If you do not mind losing the data in the category:

1. Close the Category module if it is open. You need to close and open the Category module to get Enterprise to see that you have deleted the data directory.
2. Delete the data directory for the category you want to change using Explorer. The data directory is shown in the Option tab.
3. Open the Category module and change the attribute.

Data Entry

Q. How do I copy a column of data.

A. You cannot copy columns using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V you must use Edit > Copy and Edit > Paste otherwise it is similar to Excel.

Q. How do I delete the default schedule?

A. You cannot delete the default schedule but you can change and rename it which has the same effect.

Journals

Q. All the attributes in the Journal window are inactive and I cannot input entities, accounts or values why is this?

A. You have not opened the period for journal posting. You can open a period for journal posting by selecting Task > Open Period from the menu bar. Alternatively you have not pressed Enter after inputting the Label for Journal.

Database

Q. How do I extract data for all entities.

A. To extract data for all entities:

1. In the Entities window create an entity list which contains all the entities in the application.
2. In the Database window select View > Entity List and select the list containing all entities.
3. Select the accounts and periods you want to extract by selecting the appropriate columns and rows.
4. Select Task > Extract Data and press OK.

Formulas

Q. What does the DSM in the the CHARTDSM method stand for?

A. Detailed Storage Model.

Q. Why does my A12 function not calculate properly?

A. Check the accounts and categories have the attributes specified in the Administrator's Guide. Also check that the start year of the prior category is the year before the start year of the current category. The A12 function does not work if the start year of the prior category is wrong.

Q. Why does my VAL function not translate correctly?

A. Check the account to be translated and the rate account are correct. Also check that all parent entity have their currency set. Unlike the default translation function VAL does not translate values if parent entities do not have currencies set.

Q. Why do I get an error when I load a formula file when the methods in the application I extracted the formula from are valid.

A. Hyperion Enterprise 5.1 will sometimes not load formula with comments. Try removing the comments and extracting and loading the formula again.

Hyperion Analyst

Q. Why can I not see consolidation detail in Hyperion Analyst when I can see it in Hyperion Enterprise.

A. You must include and set the parent dimension in you query before you can see consolidation detail in Hyperion Analyst.

Hyperion Retrieve

Q. I cannot understand the results I am getting from Hyperion Retrieve.

A. Early versions of Hyperion Retreive e.g. 3.1 are a bit buggy. Rebooting the PC often fixes any problems.
